The Magic of a Memory

Recently, I have been losing focus. As day to day life happens, I was losing track of why it is so important to me to help other make incredible memories with their family, friends or on their own. This morning, I received a powerful reminder of my why. Granted, at first I just thought my phone had it out for me by kicking me in the feels first thing in the morning, but then I realized that this was exactly the gift I needed from the Universe. First thing this morning, my phone presented me with… a video from 7 years ago of my kids at Disney.

It doesn’t seem too special, right? After all, Disney is our second home and we have lots of memories. You would be wrong if you thought that. At a time when my kids are growing into incredible young adults, these memories let me step back in time for just a moment. They let me savor the joy, wonder and innocence of a time when their biggest concern was which Princess dress to wear.

Now, we are at a stage where I have one getting ready to graduate and two others not far behind. We are focused on colleges, proms, graduations, trips to Europe (without Mom) and so many other things. These long ago moments that so casually appeared this morning brought me directly back.

I got to remember how my little Peter Pan clutched the hand of Belle at breakfast while taking a picture and how all the Princesses in Akershus were so enamored with him. My Merida sitting in a throne with a giant smile and a big bow in her hair, soaking in every moment and joy just radiating from her in every photo. And my more reserved Rapunzel, always watchful of those around her, feeling every moment deeply and her quiet happiness shining through her smile. These moments are my life and with each photo and each memory, I get to revisit and see it one more time.

So, all this to say, take the picture, make the memory, savor the moment. Because some day as you watch your little humans grow into amazing adults or as your relationships and friendships around you change with age, loss and distance, you will want to jump in that time machine for just a moment to feel it all one more time.
